About This Map
Real-time fire detection map combining data from NASA and ESA satellites, updated every 10 minutes. Thermal sensors detect fires by measuring infrared radiation. Click any detection for details.
View Modes
- Last 24h — Default view showing the most recent detections plus rolling seven-day burned area.
- 7-day — Animated timeline stepping through each day. Use play/pause or click dots to navigate. Burned area grows cumulatively as the animation progresses.
Detection Styles
- Pixels — Individual detections as colored squares by satellite source. Size reflects sensor resolution.
- Heatmap — Continuous heat surface where brighter colors indicate clustered or intense fire activity.

- VIIRS — 375m, polar-orbiting (Suomi NPP, NOAA-20/21)
- GOES — 2km, geostationary, Americas
- MODIS — 1km, polar-orbiting (Terra/Aqua)
- MSG / MTG — 2-3km, geostationary, Europe/Africa
- Landsat — 30m, 8-day revisit
- Sentinel-3 SLSTR — nominal 1km, global polar coverage (Sentinel-3A/3B)
Burned Area Layer
GWIS provides global near-real-time MODIS/VIIRS estimates. EFFIS RDA provides visually verified MODIS/Sentinel-2 perimeters across Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
FRP (Fire Radiative Power) measures fire intensity in MW. Higher resolution sensors detect smaller fires; geostationary sensors provide more frequent updates. Data: NASA FIRMS, EUMETSAT/Copernicus Sentinel-3 SLSTR, EUMETSAT LSA SAF, and Copernicus EMS/JRC.
